Laconia can be reached by road from Athens. After arriving at "Eleftherios Venizelos" Airport, one can take the Attiki Odos motorway (Athens ring road) heading toward Elefsina and, after passing the Isthmus of Corinth, the National Road toward Tripoli to get off the National Road just out of Tripoli and follow the road to Sparta. Sparta is situated approximately 3 hours away from Athens.
Sparta can also be reached from Athens using public means of transport (KTEL - Association of Bus Operators). The bus terminal is situated in Kifissos and there are regular itineraries on a daily basis. All buses pass by Sparta.
Apart from the Athens-Tripoli-Sparta road, Sparta is also connected to Kalamata by road. The drive through Mount Taygetos is unique, it is however a rural road with a certain degree of difficulty (curves, etc). Nevertheless, nature lovers (not to mention fans of Laconia) consider it a must.
Laconia is not linked to the centre by train or air, whereas coastal line connections are a more time-consuming alternative if Sparta and the broader area are your destination.
