Sparta

The historic "epicentre" of Laconia and capital city of the prefecture. The modern city has been literally built very close to, or in other words on, the ancient city. In particular, the northern end of the city marks the broader area of its Ancient Acropolis. With a population of approximately 20,000 people, Sparta is a rather active city and a crossroads for Laconia's visitors. Sparta, which features remarkable museums and enables visitors to wander in a wider area rich in natural beauties and archaeological monuments, is the ideal place to embark on a visit to Laconia. Access to the two mountains - Mounts Taygetos and Parnon - is easy, whereas the sea is almost 45 minutes away, the beaches of Gythio being the closest ones.

Sellassia

The seat of the Municipality of Inounda and heart of the annual "Olive Festival". All the settlements of the municipality are of interest and embrace the northeast part of Laconia. Sellassia, an area, the economy of which relies on the production of exceptional olive oil, and the Olive Festival present an outstanding opportunity for visitors to be initiated into the mysteries of the "olive culture" and the core of Laconia's local tradition. Combine your visit to this exquisite feast of agricultural tourism with a stop at the award-winning "Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil" in Sparta.

Geraki

Geraki, the seat of the Municipality of Geronthres, is a place that impresses visitors through its history and the trails it has left behind. From the Mycenaean times and the classical period up to Byzantium and the Venetian rule, Geraki was a crossroads of political, economic and strategic importance. All those historic periods have made an unforgettable mark on the region, hence inviting visitors to discover them. Geraki, a place put to the test in the years of the migration, pays homage to that chapter of history and attempts to pave new ways. The revival of its celebrated textile tradition, its promotion as a place of natural beauty and architectural interest and the enhancement of its local culture bestow on this special corner of Laconia a type of multiple dynamics.
