Laconia is a land with a unique, versatile and complex "identity". The environment, natural landscape and biodiversity of the prefecture, its cultural heritage, as well as rich local culture render Laconia a remarkable cultural crossroads.
The search for a "central" plan to promote the above and at the same time feel the vibe of the times has led to the creation of a new - innovative for Greek standards - cultural institution; to be exact, a "true festival for the 21st century" to shed light on the creation of a new relationship between Man & Nature and Man & Culture. Laconia creates the First Environmental Art Festival titled LACONIA: ARTHUMANATURE TOPOS 2007 / Environmental Art Festival and aspires to render it a Forum of International Environmental, Artistic and Cultural Discourse in the years to come.
Never before in Laconia has contemporary art been called upon to lend an attentive ear to the land's callings and be "grafted" onto the local culture in a creative manner or unite rich cultural heritage with the present, not to mention contemporary expression and creation with the wider public. Laconia as a whole is converted into a canvas for a creation that will be in progress and constantly reinforced not only by artists and thinkers who will be present and offer their talent and intellect, but also by the people of Laconia themselves, who will be coordinating their actions as part of a joint effort.
